Medication Questions and Psychedelic Preparation

August 29, 2026

Medication questions deserve a qualified answer, not a general rule from the internet. Antidepressants and other medicines can differ in mechanism, dose, timing, side effects, withdrawal risk, and interaction profile. A decision that is appropriate in a supervised research protocol may not be appropriate for an individual outside that protocol.

Do not stop, taper, skip, or change prescribed medication to prepare for a journey without advice from the clinician who prescribes it. Stopping some medicines suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms or a return of depression, anxiety, or other symptoms. Tell your healthcare team what you are considering, what supplements or substances you use, and what support you have available.

Questions to take to your clinician

  • Could my medication, supplement, or health condition affect this experience?
  • If a change is medically appropriate, what is the safest plan and monitoring period?
  • What symptoms should prompt an urgent call or emergency help?
  • Who will coordinate care if I also work with a therapist, coach, or facilitator?

Elevare Spirit can help you prepare questions and reflect on wellbeing, but medication decisions remain with qualified healthcare professionals. Current research is developing, and clinical protocols may change as evidence improves.
